What is Blogging All About?
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
Letter From a Friend is a series to share a journey from a friend of his own life experience. By writing the letter, this friend hopes to find best friends in this wonderful but also cruel world who share same feelings, ideas, and perspective. He also loves to hear from your own story. Let's share... and explore the meaning of life together...

After trying my best to post everyday and get more traffic, I just realized that blogging isn't working like the way I thought before. Blogging is all about being personal. While having several series like Good Morning, Today I Wanna Be, Short Stories, What do You Think, and Just for Fun is a good idea for posting (at least for me :P), you might end up not having more traffic than other blogs.
In blogging world, others want to know more about you! They want to know what you are doing today, how your day is, why you're happy, or when and where you heard the latest gossip. These kinds of LOGs (you know that blog came from Weblog, right?) that people want to know. These kinds of logs also that make each and every blog unique and separate your blog from the others (thank you to John Chow for this).
Now learning from my two months of blogging, I also learned that being personal is very different from being selfish. Bloggers don't like selfish Blogger! It ruins everything. It ruins the idea of sharing. Being personal with your blog and sharing your knowledge, ideas, or even your sympathy to show someone that you care. That's why we find many blogs have their own specific topic about tech, gadget, music, art, or even blogging itself! The last one is one of the most popular topics because you can earn a fortune from blogging. And for this last topic too, we still have to focus on people as posted by Jim.
So my friend, from now on I'd like to share my stories with you. I hope you care to read it. I'll be so happy if we share same perspective on something, and I'll try to see from yours if it is different. Most of all, I am always grateful for all your visits to be my friends and read my letter.
With love,
Your new friend

Aldhis,
For me, blogging is just fun. It' the excerpts of my thoughts and encounters in my life.
It's more fun when you can meet so many new friends that share a same views and interest but u actually never meet them like u.
I never purposely want to generate any traffic or made some money from my blog, it's just my leisure and fun not my works.
So, I just write what i want and i am happy and satisfy even if i only have one reader.
Cheers, my friend!
Hi Dan,
How are you? It's been a while I don't hear any news from you.
I agree with fun part about blogging, but to be honest, somehow I see traffic as one of my goal. And this is where I fall to a pitfall in blogging, to be drove by traffic instead of being fun just like you said. And this bring me no good at all.
That's why I release this new series so I could go free in my way of blogging and found the lost 'fun' I used to have.
Thank you for remind me again, Dan. :)
One part of me want to make blog as fun as possible while the other part of it me want to make money from blog.
It's my nature, when I write I want to have someone to read about it and give me their opinion back. That enough to give a full satisfaction.
Hi Hamdani, thank you for commenting in my blog! I'm one of your blog followers and love your article about blogging. :)
I think it is human nature to have respond from other as we all in basic are social creature.
First time when I started blogging, I also thinking like you first. But later, I use blogging platform for sharing and expressing my thoughts, and read another beautiful thought around the world.
